Battery Safety, Engineering Transparency, and Our Dual Product Lines
Battery Safety, Engineering Transparency,
and Our Dual Product Lines
Dear Gspace Early Customers,
Thank you for your continued trust and support, and for your concern regarding recent battery discussions. We would like to take this opportunity to provide a complete explanation of the current situation and the engineering basis behind our decisions. To date, we have not received any genuine customer reports of battery overheating, fire, smoke, or explosion.
1. Engineering Common Sense Regarding Battery System Safety
Our battery system design follows the principle of multiple safety redundancies. In response to recent discussions based on a single cell's specification sheet, it is important to clarify a common engineering principle: the specifications of a single cell cannot be directly equated to the system capability of a 23S8P battery pack.
The GS 8440 uses Samsung 50GB cells. Our firm choice of this cell during the pre-order phase was based on long-term user experience. We do not want users to face severe battery degradation after just six months to a year of riding. Under normal riding conditions, the cycle life of the 50GB is significantly better than that of the 50S. This was not a temporary decision, but a prudent judgment made by GSPACE—a company with professional pack capabilities and long-term cell application experience—based on years of practical knowledge and extensive riding tests of this cell.
2. Supporting Evidence from Independent Third-Party Testing
In addition to our own long-term testing, the independent German battery laboratory Batemo also conducted standardized independent testing on the Samsung INR21700-50GB. Under 25°C and natural convection conditions, the cell's peak current (sustainable for 5 minutes) is 22.5A.
🔬 Test method: at 25°C ambient temperature, starting from 100% SOC, discharge at constant current until either the 2.5V voltage cutoff or the 70°C surface temperature limit is reached after 5 minutes. The report also clearly states: “These operating conditions may be outside the cell manufacturer's specification.”
Batemo is a 100% independently operated German third-party battery testing laboratory headquartered in Karlsruhe. Its core business is not simply verifying manufacturer specification sheets, but rather using independent laboratory measurements to reveal the limit capabilities of cells under real-world conditions. They independently disassemble cells in a pure argon glovebox, analyzing electrodes, electrolytes, and separators to build physical-structure-based test models that cover the battery's entire operating range across wide temperatures and high currents.
3. Why Batemo's Data Is Worth Referencing
Batemo has a broad customer base across multiple high-tech fields, and its data is widely used by engineers in these fields for cell selection, system development, and performance benchmarking. The specific fields covered include:
- Automotive industry: including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and high-performance sports cars.
- Aerospace: fields with extremely high requirements for battery weight, safety, and reliability under extreme conditions.
- Energy storage systems: stationary storage with strict requirements for battery cycle life and safety.
Its core customers and partners include:
These customers include top global automakers and powertrain system suppliers. Batemo's data is valued by engineers in these fields precisely because it is independent of any cell manufacturer and measures the true limit performance of cells using standardized methods.
4. The Difference Between Continuous Discharge and Pulse Discharge
Continuous discharge capability and short-term pulse capability are two different metrics. Take the vehicle's Boost mode as an example: its peak current is only briefly output when needed, lasting approximately 10 to 30 seconds at most, after which the controller actively limits the current based on real-time temperature and duration, and automatically exits Boost mode. This shows that the system itself actively constrains the battery's peak output, preventing the battery from being in a limit discharge state for extended periods.
🛡️ In actual riding, the vast majority of high-current conditions are short pulses, not continuous high-rate output. Our BMS provides temperature protection, overcharge/over-discharge protection, and overcurrent protection. The controller has multiple current-limiting measures, and the vehicle also features thermal management and an aerosol micro fire extinguishing agent, among other safety designs. The current during actual riding always stays within the system's safe range, and there is no continuous high-rate discharge condition.
5. Dual Product Lines: Standard Edition and Performance Edition
We have never stopped testing and parameter matching for the 50S cell. We understand that for hardcore riders, high-rate discharge cells can bring smaller voltage sag, smoother power consumption, and more stable top speed and acceleration. Therefore, we officially launch our dual product lines:
- Standard Edition (Samsung 50GB cells) — All-Around Mastery. Ready When You Are. Powerful comprehensive performance, top-tier stability and handling, longer cycle life to confidently meet the vast majority of riding conditions.
- Performance Edition (Samsung 50S cells, Nebula Violet Limited) — Built for hardcore riders. The 50S is designed for high-rate performance. Through optimized electrode formulation and pole piece structure, it reduces internal resistance, providing better voltage retention and continuous output capability under high-rate discharge, with more stable top speed and acceleration. At the same time, this high-rate-oriented structural design comes with clear trade-offs: relatively lower active material proportion, some sacrifice in energy density, and shorter cycle life compared to energy-type cells. It is more suitable for users who clearly prioritize high-intensity riding experience. Full details and pricing will be officially announced on October 14th.
The two editions run side by side, not as replacements, but as choices.
Regarding the “Dual Battery Privilege” plan:
- The official MSRP for the Performance Edition battery is $1,299.
- For early customers who have already pre-ordered and received the GS 8440 Standard Edition, with their order number, they can enjoy a one-time personalized configuration price of $599 for a brand-new Performance Edition battery, while keeping their original Standard Edition battery—no need to send it back.
- The order number is the exclusive voucher. One per customer, early pre-order users only.
6. Regarding Early Batches and Subsequent Improvements
We also want to be transparent: during the delivery of early pre-order batches, we did receive feedback from some users, including issues with certain controllers, motors, and assembly processes. We take this very seriously. Our engineering and after-sales teams have been continuously investigating, repairing, and optimizing. Future shipments will include improvements and optimizations for known issues. For genuine failures, we provide replacement or repair—no pushback.
7. Our Attitude
We have no intention of engaging in meaningless online arguments. We will devote more energy and time to optimizing our products and responsibly responding to the real needs of every genuine customer. For malicious fabrication and dissemination of false information, we reserve the right to take legal action.
